About the Role
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Church Assistant (usher) to join our HOSPITALITY, HOUSE-KEEPING AND USHERING DEPARTMENT. As a Church Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring that church services and events are conducted smoothly and efficiently. You will be responsible for maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all attendees during church services and events. Your duties will include welcoming and guiding visitors and members to their seats, assisting with the arrangement of chairs, tables, and other equipment required for church services and events, providing support to church leaders and other departments, keeping the church premises clean and tidy, ensuring that the church premises are secure and well-maintained at all times, assisting the elderly, disabled, and other vulnerable members of the congregation, serving refreshments and food to attendees, and managing the finances and resources of the department, if applicable.
Responsibilities:
- Welcome and guide visitors and members to their seats during church services and events.
- Maintain order and ensure the safety of all attendees during church services and events.
- Assist with the arrangement of chairs, tables, and other equipment required for church services and events.
- Provide support to church leaders and other departments during church services and events.
- Keep the church premises clean and tidy before, during, and after church services and events.
- Ensure that the church premises are secure and well-maintained at all times.
- Assist the elderly, disabled, and other vulnerable members of the congregation during church services and events.
- Serve refreshments and food to attendees during church services and events.
- Manage the finances and resources of the department, if applicable.
- Ensure that the department's activities align with the overall mission and values of the church.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and show respect for the church and its members.

Organization skills: They should be able to coordinate and manage the logistics of church services and events, including setting up chairs and tables (1 Corinthians 14:33).
Service-oriented: They should have a heart for service and be willing to go the extra mile to meet the needs of the congregation (Galatians 5:13).
Interpersonal skills: They should be able to work well with others, including church leaders, members, and other departments (Ephesians 4:2-3).
Time management: They should be able to manage their time effectively and efficiently, especially during busy periods such as holidays or special events (Ephesians 5:15-16).
Safety awareness: Ushers should be able to maintain the safety and security of all attendees during church services and events (Psalm 91:11-12).
Budgeting and financial management: They should be able to manage the finances and resources of the department, if applicable (Luke 16:10).
Alignment with the mission and values of the church: They should ensure that the department's activities align with the overall mission and values of the church (Colossians 3:17).
