About the Role

The Community Outreach and Welfare Department plays a crucial role in extending the love and compassion of Christ to the wider community and fulfilling the church's mission to serve others.

This department typically has the following roles and responsibilities as they work alongside the evangelists in the church.

Caring for the less privileged: This group is responsible for identifying and caring for the less privileged in the church and community, including the elderly, the sick, the disabled, and the financially challenged.

Appropriately checking up on members' well-being and absences. Organising visits and interventions when and where necessary. 

Providing food and clothing: This group is responsible for providing food, clothing, and other necessities to those in need.

Providing shelter: This group is responsible for providing temporary shelter to the homeless and those in need.

Providing healthcare support and referral: This group is responsible for providing healthcare services to those in need, including medical check-ups, vaccinations, and first aid.

Providing education and training: This group is responsible for providing education and training to those in need, including vocational training and life skills training.

Counseling and support: This group is responsible for providing emotional and spiritual counselling and support to those in need.

Fundraising and donations: This group is responsible for raising funds and accepting donations to support their work.

Requirements

These skills and qualities are supported by biblical references such as Titus 2:1-8 which encourages the older men and women to teach the younger generation to live wisely, love their families, and do good. It also emphasizes the importance of teaching others what is good and living in a way that honours God. Additionally, the department's focus on providing care and support to those in need is in line with the biblical values of love, compassion, and service to others, as seen in Matthew 25:35-40 where Jesus encourages his followers to care for the sick, feed the hungry, and clothe the needy.

  7. Knowledge of counselling and mental health support to provide emotional and spiritual care.

  8. Knowledge of healthcare services to provide medical support and referrals.

  9. Experience in education and vocational training to provide skills training and employment opportunities.

  10. Cultural sensitivity to effectively serve diverse communities.

  11. Passion for serving others and sharing the love of Christ with the wider community.

  12. Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and situations.

  13. Patience and perseverance to work through challenges and setbacks.

  14. It is desired that at least one member in the department is familiar with the church database/app to support its work.
